Celebrations of the 39th Olympic Day of the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) were officially launched on the morning of 21 June 2025. This year’s event continues with the theme of “Let’s Move”, and the main venue is for the first time located on the boulevard of the Beijing Olympic Park Central Area and in the surrounding area of the Beijing Olympic Museum. Celebrations also take place in 11 localities including Zhangjiakou of Hebei Province. The Beijing Olympic City Development Association (BODA) has organised a variety of activities celebrating the Olympic Day.
A public fitness campaign kicked off at the main venue in Beijing on the morning of 21 June. Before the event started, students from Beijing City University performed aerobics and led the participants to warm up. A host of VIPs presented commemorative certificates to the representatives and fired the starting gun on the rostrum. They included Li Jing, Deputy Director of the General Administration of Sport of China and Vice Chairperson of the COC; Zhang Yufei, an Olympic champion in swimming,; Ma Long, an Olympic champion in table tennis,; Federico Roberto Antonelli, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of the Embassy of Italy in China,; Wu Jian, Secretary-General of the COC,; Fu Xiaohui, Director of the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre; and Ding Dong, Deputy Secretary-General of the COC and Director of the Mass Sports Department. They were joined by Zhang Jian, President of Beijing Sport University,; Li Qilin, Executive Director of Li Ning Company Limited,; Yuan Hongxing, Public Relations Director of TCL Technology Group and chief of the Beijing Representative Office,; and Zhao Hongji, CMO of Mengniu Dairy. The event started with a run led by Zhang Yufei and Ma Long and participated by about 500 sports enthusiasts. Also present at the event were representatives from the COC, the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, China Sports Industry Group Co., Ltd., the Beijing Olympic Park Central Area Management Committee and Li Ning Company Limited.

This year, 80 members of BODA’s Olympic Games Community participated in the running event, responding to the International Olympic Committee’s initiative with concrete action.

On the same day, a sideline event took place in Cuiyun Mountain, Chongli District of Zhangjiakou. It was hosted by the COC and co-organised by the Zhangjiakou Municipal Bureau of Sports and the Zhangjiakou Sports Federation, with the support of the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre. Nearly 600 people from Beijing and Zhangjiakou participated in the cross-country running event.

At the main venue in Beijing, an Olympic cultural marketplace is open to the public for the first time. This marketplace, together with the Beijing Olympic Museum, features the dissemination of Olympic knowledge, fun sport games and Olympic cultural exchanges, allowing more people to get acquainted with the Olympic Movement and embrace sports. Zhang Yufei and Ma Long also experienced the fun sport games with great interest.

The Beijing Olympic City Development Centre set up large mascot figures of two Olympic Games held in Beijing, including Fuwa of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Summer Games, Fu Niu Lele of the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Summer Games, Bing Dwen Dwen of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 and Shuey Rhon Rhon of the Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. These mascot figures draw a big crowd to take photos, demonstrating the unique charm of Beijing as the dual Olympic city.

In the marketplace there are also posters of BODA and the Beijing Olympic Museum, as well as a temporary event tent of the Beijing Olympic Museum.

The VIPs then took a tour of the Beijing Olympic Museum. They saw firsthand how the museum, as an important organisation committed to carrying forward the Olympic legacy, has played a vital role in promoting fitness for all, advocating new lifestyles and supporting cultural-ethical advancement.

Co-hosted by BODA and the Beijing Municipal Education Commission and organised by the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, the awards ceremony of the 2025 youth Olympic writing and art competition was held at the Beijing Olympic Museum on the afternoon of 21 June. A total of 38 shortlists (including 19 essays and 19 paintings) were on display.

This event presents the important achievements of the 2025 Youth Olympic Education Study Programme and is designed to spread the Olympic spirit through art forms such as writing and painting, inspire the youth’s passion for sports and art and promote their well-rounded development. Since the 2025 Youth Olympic Education Study Programme was launched in May, a total of 12 sessions have been carried out, welcoming the participation of more than 2,200 teachers and students from 24 schools in Beijing and Zhangjiakou. By making the most of the Beijing Olympic Museum, the National Stadium, the National Speed Skating Oval and other Olympic venues, the study programme innovatively integrates physical education and aesthetic education, invites gold medallists to give instructions, and offers immersive venue experiences to students. By integrating the Olympic spirit and quality education, this enables the youths to resonate with the sporting spirit, improve their physical wellness and innovative thinking and increase their passion for sports and art.
The Beijing Olympic Museum held an Olympic legacy themed study programme on the afternoon of 21 June. Based on the photo exhibition “Civilization Dialogue: Eternal Olympic Flame - From Ancient to Modern Olympic Games”, the programme features various activities such as exploring the answers according to task cards, sharing findings, making fridge magnets modelled on a Greek clay bottle and receiving Olympic Day themed pins. The goal is to enable the participants to acquire knowledge about the Olympics in the process of independent exploration and gain a deeper understanding of the origin, spirit and core values of the Olympic movement. Through a combination of exploring the exhibition, sharing findings and making crafts, the event enriched the form of Olympic education, making it more engaging and effective.

With the support of BODA, the Beijing Olympic Museum held public film screenings on 21 June, aiming to engage more people in sports by harnessing the power of sports films and TV productions. The screenings are also intended to cultivate the public’s aesthetic sensibility, promote the deep integration of sports and aesthetic education and help spread the Olympic spirit and build a country strong in sports. Two sports films, Football on the Roof and Wonderful Youth, were screened on 21 June, attracting about 100 viewers. On 22 and 23 June, four sports films will be screened in the 3D theatre on the first basement floor of the Beijing Olympic Museum, including A Whale-Riding Teenager, The First One, The Boxer and Invisible Summit. People interested can scan the QR code through the museum’s Weixin official account to sign up.

With the support of the Beijing Olympic Museum, Olympic Partners and the COC’s Official Partners, the activities at the main venue are hosted by the COC, organised by China Sports Industry Group Co., Ltd. and co-organised by the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, the Beijing Olympic Park Central Area Management Committee and Beijing Sport University. The marketplace and public film screenings will continue until 23 June. The Beijing Olympic Museum will hold educational activities on 22 June. On 23 June, the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre will stage an exhibition with relevant organisations from Zhangjiakou. If you are interested, come and join the activities.
