It is learned that Teqball originated in Hungary in 2014 and has gained popularity worldwide in recent years. Teqball combines table tennis and football rules and techniques and is a spectator-friendly and highly engaging sport. At present, there are about 5,000 Teqball athletes in more than 150 countries and territories, as well as over 2,000 clubs.
In the past few years, the Beijing Olympic City Development Association (BODA) has deepened cooperation with the Fédération Internationale de Teqball (FITEQ) to popularise this sport in China. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on 23 July 2024, and the Beijing Teqball Association was established on the same day, with the strong support of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports. In September 2024, Teqball World Series Beijing, a high-level international event second only to the World Championships, was held at the south gate plaza of the Beijing Olympic Forest Park. This event was co-organised by FITEQ, BODA, the Beijing Sports Federation and the Chaoyang District People’s Government of Beijing Municipality. More than 120 athletes and 80 teams from 16 countries competed in the men’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles. The total prize money was USD60,000, the highest in the history of the Teqball World Series.
The Teqball themed event coincides with the 22nd Magnolia Flower Viewing Season of Beijing International Sculpture Park. By combining the long-running flower culture event and the emerging sport of Teqball, the event features sport presentation by professional athletes and public experience activities and aims to present a “spring fling” where visitors can experience the passion and charm of the emerging sport while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the park. Currently, Beijing has explored a pathway to promote the development of Teqball by holding specialized events and popularising the sport on campus and in communities. This promotional event innovatively integrating with the Magnolia Flower Viewing Season will further increase public awareness of Teqball and foster new highlights in the integration of culture, commerce, tourism and sports.
The event will last until 6 April, featuring sport presentation on 29 and 30 March and public experience activities from 31 March to 6 April. Come to the vibrant Beijing International Sculpture Park this spring, and enjoy a tour of Teqball blending novelty, romance and passion!
