“Olympic Journey Through Time – Exhibition on Past Olympic Summer Games” of the 15th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival Opens in Shougang Park

With the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China approaching, the first touring exhibition of the “Olympic Journey Through Time – Exhibition on Past Olympic Summer Games” opened in front of No. 1 Blast Furnace of Shougang Park on 27 September. The touring exhibition is co-hosted by the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre and the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. Ji Chuanpai, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, announced the opening of the exhibition, and Shen Hong, Chief Strategy Officer of VSTARTUP, delivered an address.

Shen Hong said that Shougang Park is proud to host the first touring exhibition as part of the Olympic culture promotion programme of the 15th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival, and the exhibition not only keeps the Olympic legacy alive but also embodies the wishes for an even brighter future we all look forward to. The Olympic culture themed exhibition gives visitors an opportunity to revisit the extraordinary Olympic journey and experience the Olympic culture up close, while also creating a festive atmosphere for the upcoming National Day. It is expected that the touring exhibition will draw a large number of visitors from and outside of Beijing and become a new popular attraction in western Beijing during the Golden Week, adding sports and cultural appeal to Shougang Park.

Wang Cheng, Director of the Communications Department of the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, introduced that Shougang Park, a former industrial site, started its transformation inspired by the concept of Beijing 2008 and is now a new landmark of urban renewal and a new hub for culture, sports, exhibitions and consumption in Beijing. Hosting the first Olympic themed touring exhibition here is not only the utilisation of Olympic legacy but also reflects an innovative exploration in carrying forward the Olympic culture. The touring exhibition features 90 display boards which present the history of the modern Olympic Movement and provide a profound interpretation of the Olympic spirit.

Lv Xiaozhuo, General Manager of SoReal Sci-Fi Park in No.1 Blast Furnace of Shougang Park, attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was moderated by Liu Lin, Vice President of VSTARTUP.

Co-curated with the International Olympic Committee, “Olympic Journey Through Time – Exhibition on Past Olympic Summer Games” presents the wonderful moments of the previous Summer Olympics from the Games of the I Olympiad (Athens 1896) to the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad (Paris 2024). This touring exhibition will last until 7 October. In the next step, the thematic exhibition will also reach out to public institutions, communities and schools, along with the Olympic Culture Lecture, sports film screening and other activities, to play a sustained role in spreading the Olympic knowledge and culture. The upcoming touring exhibitions targeting different groups like residents, employees and students will enable a broader range of people to feel the charm of the Olympic Movement, learn about China’s extraordinary journey of participating in and delivering the Olympic Games, and resonate with the Olympic spirit and China’s sporting spirit.

As part of the Olympic culture promotion programme of the 15th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival, “Olympic Journey Through Time – Exhibition on Past Olympic Summer Games” was previously staged in the Summer Palace from 19 July to September 24. The exhibition coincided with the Paris 2024 Olympics, China’s National Fitness Day, the 16th anniversary of Beijing 2008 and the summer vacation, receiving a total of approximately 500,000 visitors, especially teenagers and their families.
