Beijing Olympic Museum Receives over 10,000 Visitors per Day During Summer Vocation

The Beijing Olympic Museum is teeming with visitors during the summer vocation, receiving more than 10,000 visitors per day. Catering for meet visitors’ needs, the museum will extend its opening hours on Saturdays, a measure that will continue through the National Day holiday (1 to 7 October).

After upgrade, the Beijing Olympic Museum reopened to the public in February this year. As an important cultural platform that showcases the unique charm of Beijing as the first and the only city that has hosted both the Summer and Winter Olympics, the museum adopts the operating model of “indoor halls and an outdoor square”. The museum displays a wealth of physical exhibits, images and video footages in various forms, such as scene replica, multimedia models and display without protective enclosures, presenting the bidding, preparation and staging of the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 as well as their profound impacts on the development of the host cities.

As part of the 15th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival and the 5th “8·8” Beijing Sports Shopping Carnival that opened on 8 August, BODA is hosting the “Olympic Splendour · Wonderful Summer” event at the South Plaza of the Dual Olympic Square on the west of the Beijing Olympic Museum. The event includes the “Olympic Journey Through Time – Exhibition on Olympic Summer Games”, the Olympic journey cultural site, surfing and tennis photo-taking and experience activities, and Olympic look photo-taking. Every Saturday afternoon, skateboarding, street dance and Teqball professionals and enthusiasts are invited to the display and experience zones, attracting a large number of visitors. The event is an active exploration in making holistic use of the indoor halls and outdoor square.

In order to better meet visitors’ needs, the Beijing Olympic Museum will extend its opening hours on Saturdays, that is, it will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the last admission at 7:00 p.m. (see the Beijing Olympic Museum’s WeChat official account for more information). This measure will continue through the National Day holiday. Except for statutory holidays, the museum is open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00 p.m. every Tuesday to Friday and on Sundays, with the last admission at 4:00 p.m. Free reservations are available to group tours, while no reservation is required for individual visitors.

In the future, the Beijing Olympic Museum will continue to host a series of exhibitions, educational and research activities and cultural exchanges and provide unique cultural goods centred on the Olympic spirit for the public. The museum will pool resources of the dual Olympic culture, especially resources in the Beijing Olympic Park Central Area, adopt new operational and management mechanisms, explore new forms, new formats and new products, and boost sports culture and tourism in an endeavour to promote the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development. It will also strengthen cooperation with the IOC, the Olympic Museums Network and other international organisations, continuously improve its service quality and enhance exchanges with other museums to jointly carry forward the Olympic spirit.
