Main Activities of the 15th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival Unveiled

The Beijing Olympic City Development Centre and the Changping District People’s Government jointly held a launch ceremony for the main activities of the 15th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival at Huilongguan Sports and Cultural Centre, Changping District on 16 August 2024. Gao Yunchao, Deputy Director of the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, and Liang Jingyuan, Level-II Councilor of the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau attended the launch ceremony and together inaugurated the main activities.

The launch ceremony kicked off with a passionate and exuberant breaking performance by a bunch of primary and middle school students in Beijing. The fantastic performance received a big round of applause from the audience.

On behalf of the organizing committee of the 15th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival, Gao Yunchao presented the “RUN GIRLS Featured Track” plaque to the Changping District Sports Bureau, the “Little Triathlete Star Course” plaque to the Shisanling Town People’s Government of Changping District, and the “Dual Olympic Camp Demonstration Base” plaque to Beijing Changping Cultural Tourism Development Group Co., Ltd.

Li Gang, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Changping District Committee and Director of the Office of  Changping District Commission on Cultural and Ethical Progress, and Kang Dezhu, Deputy Director of the Changping District Sports Bureau jointly presented plaques to the representatives from six outstanding bike stations in Changping District.

A 3D animated promotional film for the main activities of the 15th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival was released at the ceremony. The original animated avatar called “Xiao Ao” doing different sports spreads basic knowledge on the festival among the audience and vividly shows to them the colorful and distinctive sporting events and activities of the festival.

After the launch ceremony, the guests checked out the Marketplace of the Dual Olympic Camp. They visited five exhibitors, namely, the shared bike station Meixi Farm, the Changping Cycling Club, Yu Bi Fang, Garmin, and Beijing Honav Group, and got an idea of their featured businesses and operations.

The speed climbing finals were held on the evening. It is known that speed climbing became a single sport climbing event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Eight young climbers competed in the finals, the youngest being seven years old and the oldest 12 years old. They stood out from 50 amateur climbers in the preliminary round. In the end, the 12-year-old Chen Yunru finished first, and the 11-year-old Zhang Tingrui and 12-year-old Dian Dian came in second place and third place, respectively.

According to the organizer, the main activities of the 15th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival feature the launch ceremony, the Dual Olympic Camp, and mass sports events. Among them, the Dual Olympic Camp in Huilongguan Sports and Cultural Centre is the first event following the launch of the main activities. The Dual Olympic Camp hosts a variety of activities, such as the Marketplace, the Open Challenges and the Olympic Tempo Run. Revolving around the theme of the “Beijing Olympic City Sport, Culture and Tourism Consumption Carnival”, the Marketplace consists of the dual Olympic area, exhibition area, and display area. The dual Olympic area will stage a reading salon, sports celebrity appearances, and an online cycling challenge. The exhibition area will showcase treasured Olympic collections such as Olympic torches, medals and mascots. The display area will spotlight a wide variety of products from local cultural and creative brands, catering businesses, cultural tourism agencies, and sports brands in Changping District. The marketplace is open to the public for free. The Open Challenges mainly includes the breaking competition, speed climbing competition, three-point challenge, badminton competition, table tennis competition, and archery competition. The Olympic Tempo Run will take place on the track of Huilongguan Sports and Cultural Centre, where people can run to music at 120 or 180 beats per minute, elevating their passion for sports. Diverse mass sports events are on the way, including the Little Triathlete, the Run Girls and the Five-Ring Medal Challenge. The Little Triathlete will be held at YL Youth Sports Camp, Changping District on 15 August. Run Girls will take place in Qikong Bridge flower field and Ming Tombs Reservoir, Changping District on 1 September. Launched by the Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival in 2022, it is a new flagship event dedicated to female runners. The Five-Ring Medal Challenge will be held at the China Administration of Sports for Persons with Disabilities in Shunyi District on 8 September.

It is learned that the 15th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival is hosted by the Beijing Olympic City Development Association and will last until December 2024. In addition to the main activities, a variety of competitions and distinctive sports and cultural activities will be staged, such as the Teqball World Series Beijing, the Beijing International Sports Film Week, youth Olympic education, “Dual Olympic” culture promotion, the “Joyful Road of the Winter Olympics” and self-service track, and the themed exhibition on how the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 has promoted the integrated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

Other high-ranking officials present at the launch ceremony, along with Li Gang, included Zhang Jing, Director of the Resource Development Department of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Cui Zhoupeng, Party Secretary of Shisanling Town, Zhang Baoli, Deputy Director of the Changping District Sports Bureau, Kang Dezhu, Deputy Director of the Changping District Sports Bureau, and Geng Zhiyun, General Manager of Beijing Changping Cultural Tourism Development Group Co., Ltd.
