On October 23, the 8th Youth Camp of Chinese Olympic Committee opened at the Capital Institute of Physical Education in Beijing. It attracted 60 young participants from 18 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) including Japan, Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Indonesia and Maldives, as well as relevant domestic organizations. Wei Daishun, Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) and Director of the International Sports Exchange Center of the General Administration of Sport of China (GASC), attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Zhang Xia, President of the Capital Institute of Physical Education, and Liu Jun, Deputy Director of the International Sports Exchange Center, GASC, were also present.

The first day of the camp, October 24, witnessed a series of colorful activities centering around the Olympic legacy. The participants visited the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest), the National Speed Skating Oval (Ice Ribbon), the Olympic Tower and other Olympic venues, as well as the landmark buildings in the Beijing Olympic Green. While appreciating the beauty of both the Summer and Winter Olympic venues, they learned more about how the Summer and Winter Olympic venues have benefited the people since the end of the Games.

The visit was followed by a lecture given by Liu Xinghua, Head of the International Relations Department of the Beijing Olympic City Development Center and former Director of the Legacy Management Division of the General Planning Department of Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Mr. Liu introduced what Beijing had achieved in inheriting the legacy of both the Beijing 2008 and Beijing 2022 Games and what his Center had done in legacy inheritance and utilization over the years.

This year’s youth camp is hosted by the COC, and undertaken by the International Sports Exchange Center, GASC. Beijing Olympic City Development Center was responsible for undertaking the first-day activities. The six-day event, with the theme of “Participating in and Sharing the Olympic Legacy,” aims to build a platform for exchange and communication, promote exchanges and cooperation among young people of different NOCs, and jointly promote the popularization and development of the Olympic Movement. In the following days, the campers will study and discuss topics such as the Olympic Movement in China, Olympic legacy and its post-Games use, and the role of technology in the Olympic Games. They will also participate in a variety of cultural activities.
