On April 16, 2023, with the support of Beijing Olympic City Development Association, Beijing Olympic City Development Foundation, the touring exhibition “Carrying Forward the Spirit of Beijing 2022 and Promoting the Development of Border Regions,” jointly organized by Beijing Olympic City Development Center, Office of Beijing Municipal Leading Group for Cooperation and Assistance, Hotan Command Center of the above Office, and the Publicity Department of Hotan Prefectural Party Committee, was unveiled at the New-Era Civilization Practice Center in Hotan, Xinjiang. Ji Chuanpai, member of the Party Leadership Group and deputy director of Beijing Olympic City Development Center, and Mi Jia, member of the Party Committee and deputy head of the Hotan Command Center of the Office of Beijing Municipal Leading Group for Cooperation and Assistance, each gave a speech. The attendees included Wang Kun, a deputy-director-level official of Beijing Olympic City Development Center; Wang Kai, deputy director of the Social Affairs Department of the Hotan Command Center of the Office of Beijing Municipal Leading Group for Cooperation and Assistance, and deputy director of the Publicity Department of the Hotan Prefectural Party Committee; Zhao Chengqiang, director of the Political and Legal Publicity Department of the Xinjiang Sports Bureau; Zhou Nengwen, secretary of the Party Leadership Group and deputy director of the Hotan Prefecture Bureau of Culture and Tourism; Si Haitao, secretary of the Party Committee and deputy director of Converged Media Center of Hotan Prefecture. The opening ceremony was presided over by Dong Hongwei, director of Legal and Finance Department, Beijing Olympic City Development Center.

Ji Chuanpai pointed out in his speech that the exhibition was organized to thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on the Olympic legacy work, vigorously carry forward the spirit of Beijing 2022 Games, and reinforce the sense of the Chinese nation as one community. Hotan is closely related to the Olympic Games. The Hotan jade was used to make the emblem “Dancing Beijing” and the medals of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, and a series of licensed jade commodities for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, adding rich Chinese cultural connotation to the modern Olympic Games. Beijing Olympic City Development Center has also worked closely with Hotan, where it hosted the Olympic culture exhibition in 2011. This touring exhibition will strengthen the relationship between the two sides, and further their cooperation. The Beijing Olympic City Development Center will make the most of this travelling exhibition to give play to its advantages, and write a new chapter in inheriting the Olympic legacy, promoting the development of sports and culture in border areas, reinforcing the sense of the Chinese nation as one community, and realizing the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation.

Mi Jia pointed out in his speech that the opening of this touring exhibition in Hotan showed the organizer’s determination to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions made during his visit to Xinjiang, its care and support for the healthy growth of the youth in Hotan and effort to reinforce the sense of the Chinese nation as one community. It was also an attempt to promote patriotism in the border areas, carry forward the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games, inspire the youth of all ethnic groups in Hotan prefecture to devote themselves to serving the country, to have great dreams, and to build a common spiritual home of the Chinese nation. In the next step, the organizer will give full play to the role of the touring exhibition, and organize teachers, students and representatives of all ethnic groups in Hotan prefecture to watch and study the exhibition in an orderly and effective manner. At the same time, the courseware on the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games will be introduced to schools in a solid manner, so that the masses of all ethnic groups, including the youth, could deeply feel the strength of the motherland, the power of role models, and the glory of dreams.

At the opening ceremony, Patimai Abulaiti, a student representative from Hotan Beijing Haidian Elementary School, which was built with the aid of Beijing, and a volunteer guide for the exhibition, also made a wonderful speech based on her personal experience at the Winter Olympic Dream Camp to commemorate the first anniversary of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. She said she would strive to become a disseminator of the Olympic spirit, an ambassador of multi-ethnic unity, and play her part in reinforcing the sense of the Chinese nation as one community.

At the opening ceremony, the Party Committee of Beijing Olympic City Development Center presented the courseware for “carrying forward the spirit of Beijing 2022 and promoting the development of border areas” to the Party Committee of the Hotan Command Center of the Office of Beijing Municipal Leading Group for Cooperation and Assistance. This set of courseware is an important part of the Summer and Winter Olympic Heritage Transformation and Co-development Project initiated by both sides.

The Beijing Olympic City Development Center also donated volunteer uniforms for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games and the picturealbums Olympic City Forever and Winter Olympic Cities to the Hotan Command Center of the Office of Beijing Municipal Leading Group for Cooperation and Assistance, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Sports Bureau, and the Publicity Department of Hotan Prefectural Party Committee.

The herdsman Bayin Guoli, a representative of Wenquan County, Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, donated the national flag and horsewhips used by the Chinese delegation at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games to the Beijing Olympic Museum.

It’s learnt that this exhibition, themed on the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games, absorbs the characteristics and the development practices in Hotan prefecture, and is divided into four sections: “The Glory,” “The Course,” “The Struggle,” and “The Achievements.” Through 300 selected pictures and representative physical objects of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, it systematically shows the process, highlight moments and achievements of the city in bidding and preparing for and holding of the Games, and vividly illustrates the spirit of the Games. As a sideline event, the organizer invited athletes, torchbearers and representatives of the staff of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games to some elementary and secondary schools in Hotan to talk about the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Games. Ten local students who participated in the Winter Olympic Dream Camp in Beijing to commemorate the first anniversary of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games served as volunteer expositors for the exhibition, telling the audience wonderful stories about the Games. The touring exhibition will stay in Hotan prefecture until mid-June, and the admission is free of charge. Visitors who gave correct answers to questions asked during the visit would be rewarded with souvenirs of the Games.
Also present at the opening ceremony as Luo Liguo, a Level IV Division Rank Official of the Office of Beijing Municipal Leading Group for Cooperation and Assistance Division I; Li Haihong, deputy director of Development Research Department, Beijing Olympic City Development Center; Wu Haidong, member of the Party Leadership Group of the Hotan Prefecture Education Bureau; Waili Muhatijiang, deputy editor of the Editing Department of the Converged Media Center of Wenquan County, Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang; Yang Yang, Cao Wenfeng and Liu Yukun, members of the communication delegation; the Olympic torchbearer Dinige’er Yilamujiang, and representatives of volunteer expositors, among others.
It is learnt that after Hotan, the touring exhibition will continue its journey to Yushu of Qinghai and Lhasa of Tibet.
