The 12th Beijing International Sports Film Week showcased a specialpremiere of Eddie the Eagle at QiaoboIce & Snow World on March 9, 2016. Jiang Xiaoyu, Vice-President of BeijingOlympic City Development Association, attended the event and presented the filmdistributor 20th Century Fox with a special screening certificate. Jiang hopedthat more sports films, such as Eddie theEagle, particularly those rich in Winter Olympic themes, could be screenedin China, so as to allow the public to learn about Winter Olympics, besides encouragingyouth to participate in and enjoy winter sports, thus achieving the goal of encouraging300 million people to participate in winter sports.
Hugh Jackman, the film’s lead and famous actor for the character Wolverine,and Taron Egerton from Kingsman: TheSecret Service interacted with fans and ski enthusiasts at the pressconference. In the meanwhile, the film’s prototype, British skier Eddie Edwardsalias “The Eagle”, joined Chinese freestyle skiing champion Guo Dandan for a skiperformance.
Eddie the Eagle tells the story of the mostfamous ski jumper in the British history, Eddie Edwards. He was an ordinaryindividual whose dogged pursuit in going beyond himself helped him achieve hisOlympic dream. Produced in a relaxing and lively style, the film offers somehighly inspirational elements of sportsmanship, which immensely correspond tothe objective of Beijing International Sports Film Week. In response to theoverwhelming demand of sports movie fans, the organising committee of the filmweek purposely chose the film for special-screening in 2016.
Eddie the Eagle will come to Chinese cinemas onMarch 18. Fans will be able to learn more about it and stand a chance to winfree tickets for the film through the official website and WeChat and Weiboaccounts of Beijing International Sports Film Week.
