On the morning of July 31, 2014, the official website of Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee was opened, which became another milestone of the Beijing and Zhangjiakou’s joint bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially had declared Beijing as a candidate city on July 7. The official website’s openness was required by the IOC to allow more citizens to know about the bidding process of the 2022 Winter Olympics. Tencent sponsored the building of the official website and will take full use of its platform and technical strength to undertake the construction and daily maintenance of the official website.
Following the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and Expo 2010 Shanghai, the 2022 Winter Olympics is another top international event which China bids for, and closely relates to the Chinese dream to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. This joint bid will help enhance the image of China, the country’s state power and global influence; carries forward the Olympic spirit, push winter sportsforward in order to boost China from a large sport country to a strong one; promote the co-development among Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province in terms of industrial transformation and upgrading of fitness, leisure, culture and tourism. It will also accelerate the control of air pollution, and elevate people’s living level and public health level.
The bid committee has carries out a series of work according to the bidding procedures regulated by the IOC since the joint bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics. The openness of the official website is one of these work.
The official website will play the following roles during the process of the bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics:
1. An important window for the domestic masses, international societies and IOC to understand Beijing and Zhangjiakou;
2. An authorized platform for the bid committee to release real-time information related to the bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics, fast, accurately and overall reflect the progress of the joint bid. It will also provide rich information concerning the venue and facilities construction, tourist guide, environment and climate for the domestic masses, international societies and IOC.
3. The bid committee’s image building and promotion platform. The official website features the combination of Beijing’s and Zhangjiakou’s traditional cultures and modern construction, leverages photos and figures to propaganda the significance of the bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics, carry forward the spirit of the Winter Olympics and showcase the China’s openness and inclusiveness.
4. A channel for communication and public wisdom collection. The official website will launch such solicitation of bid slogan, song, poster, bid report, photos and related contests, in order to encourage netizens to take part in and ask for their ideas and suggestions.
The official website still needs to be improved at the initial stage and askall sectors of society to give the guidance and assistance. The bid committee also promises to live up to public expectations and do the best to build better website for the convenience of the masses.
