On April 17, 2013 Olympic Education Activities in Primary and Secondary Schools of Beijing themed on “The Spirit of Olympics in Beijing” kicked off. Wang Wei, Vice President of Beijing Olympic City Development Association (BODA), principals from relevant agencies such as Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, Beijing Municipal Communist Youth League and CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, as well as Olympic champions Chen Zhong, Wang Liping, Yang Ling and Liu Ailing attended the launching ceremony held at Yangfangdian Center Primary School in Haidian District.
Wang Wei announced the launch of “The Spirit of Olympics in China” 2013 Olympic Education Activities in Primary and Secondary Schools of Beijing. Zheng E, Deputy Director of Beijing Municipal Commission of Education introduced the schedule of the activity. In addition, the student representative of Yangfangdian Center Primary School read out the Initiative, calling for students to insist on taking exercise outdoors to practice the spirit of Olympics. BODA presented footballs to the student representatives of Olympic demonstration schools in Beijing.
In 2013, taking the opportunity of the 5th anniversary of Beijing Olympic, Beijing kept integrating the educational and sports competitions. Ten major activities, such as “The Spirit of Olympics in China” Photography, Writing and Painting Competition, Training for Primary and Secondary Teachers, “My Olympics” Teenager Experience Camp, “Express to Sochi” Olympic Education Winter Camp and Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Truelove Knot were held. Besides, 22 diversified events for teenagers like campus football, basketball, volleyball and swimming games and quiz games were organized.
As a brand program of Olympic Education Activities, the activity was jointly held by BODA, Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, Beijing Municipal Communist Youth League and CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, covering the fields of Olympic education, teenager quality education, social welfare and international communication. Spreading Olympic education in the form of sports, cultural, artistic and international communication activities, it aims at carrying forward the spirit of Olympics, thus promoting the comprehensive development of teenagers.
Since its launch in 2010, the Organizing Committee has been working on making it more diversified and innovative. Along with its rapid growth is an increasingly expanding influence. In 2012, around 70,000 students from 913 schools participated in 4,316 matches. Now, “Sports, Happiness and Health” Olympic Education Activities in Primary and Secondary Schools of Beijing has blended in campus life of primary and secondary school students in Beijing, playing an active role for the healthy growth of teenagers.
