Qinhuangdao city information

Situated on the North China Plain, the city faces Bohai Bay on the south and is adjacent to the Yanshan range in the north. To the east is the province of Liaoning (Shenyang is 420 km away), to the west are the municipalities of Tianjin (220 km) and Beijing (280 km). Three urban districts of Beidaihe, Shanhaiguan and Haigang are under its jurisdiction, as well as the counties of Funing, Changli, Lulong and Qinglong Manchu Autonomous County. Qinhuangdao covers an area of 7,8124 square kilometers and has a population of 2.76 million.

Climate

Qinhuangdao is in the temperate monsoon zone with a semi-humid continental climate influenced by the ocean. The climate is mild with moderately warm summers. The average annual temperature is 10.1 degrees Celsius (50.18 degrees Fahrenheit). July is the hottest month with an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit).

Transport

The city is centered on the harbor district. There are 37 bus lines that through the districts of Beidaihe and Shanhaiguan. Buses start at 6:30 and stop at 19:30. Some lines have night buses that run until 21:30.

Taxis start at 6 RMB and charge 1.40-1.60 RMB per kilometer, depending on the type of vehicle.

Accommodation

There are many different grades of hotels. Beidaihe is a major summer tourist resort with a large number of villa-style hotels. There are also many small hotels, and bed-and-breakfast facilities in private homes. Both Nandaihe and Shanhaiguan have tourist resort centers providing comfortable amenities.

Venue Information

The Qinhuangdao Olympic Center Stadium is located in the harbor district in the southwestern part of town, between Hebei Avenue to the north, Wenchang Road to the west and Wensheng Road to the south. The stadium is one of the competition venues for football preliminary matches. Its light steel hanging framework with curves like a horse saddle gives a sense of movement, while the creamy white roof-covering against the blue sky resembles the sails of a ship at sea. At night, the inside lighting makes the whole structure glow like a huge shell on the beach.
