The 17th CPC National Congress calls for successful Beijing Olympics and Paralympics in 2008
On October 15, Chinese President Hu Jintao stressed the need "to stage successful 2008 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games" in his report to the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Earlier, on March 23, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee specially heard a report on the preparatory work for the Olympic Games and urged the departments concerned to make great efforts, enhance coordination, work hard, and make concrete contributions to the Olympic preparations. On July 17, Premier Wen Jiabao inspected the sites of the Olympic venues, where he gave explicit instructions on the construction of quality Olympic venues and the preparatory work for the Beijing Olympics.
