QUALIFICATION SYSTEM
Athlete eligibility
To be eligible to fill qualification places, athletes must have achieved the minimum standards of 5,100
points (men) and 4,800 points (women) on the UIPM qualification list of 1 June 2008.
Athlete qualification
Qualification is attributed to the athlete by name.
NOCs with more than 2 qualified athletes have the authority to decide which 2 athletes they will enter.
Athletes must have achieved their qualification position:
- through an official Olympic qualification competition
- through the Pentathlon World Ranking
- by the Tripartite Commission Invitation places
- or by the host nation provisions.

A qualification place will allocated to the winner of the Final
Continental Championships 19
19 qualification places will be allocated to athletes achieving the following placings at continental
championships to be held during the period 1 January 2007 to 15 August 2007:
Africa – 1st place
Asia – 5 highest places
Oceania – 1st place
Pan America – 4 places (1st place NORCECA, 1st place South America, 2 highest Pan American,
and all 4 places from 4 different NOCs)
Europe – 8 highest places

Qualification places will be allocated to the 3 highest placed athletes
Pentathlon World Ranking 7
From the World Ranking List of 1 June 2008, the first 7 athletes not already qualified through competition.
Host nation 1
The host nation will be guaranteed 1 place, if not otherwise qualified
Tripartite Commission (IOC-ANOC-UIPM) Invitations places 2
2 Invitation places will be allocated by the Tripartite Commission. The deadline for NOCs to submit their
requests for Tripartite Commission Invitation places is 15 November 2007. The Tripartite Commission will
confirm, in writing, a preliminary allocation of Invitation places to the NOCs by 31 January 2008. The
allocation of remaining Invitation places will be confirmed, in writing, to the NOCs from April – July 2008.
To be eligible for such an Invitation place, each pentathlete must achieve the minimum eligibility standard.
Further information on Invitation places is contained in the Information Paper for NOCs distributed with
the qualification system manual.
UIPM World Ranking List (+)
If any places are not distributed through the above process, or if an athlete achieving a qualification
position has been previously qualified, the available places will be allocated to the next highest ranked
athlete on the UIPM World Ranking List of 1 June 2008.
