Competition Format

Individual Road Race

The course of Road Race includes a point-to-point section plus several laps of a circuit of public roads.

The Road Race is a mass start event, where the first rider to complete the distance is declared the winner. Men will compete 7 laps, covering a total distance of 245.4 km and women will compete 2 laps, covering a distance of 126.4 km. Starting positions will be allocated according to the result at the previous Olympic Games and the current UCI ranking by nation. Cyclists from the higher position nations will be placed at the front of the group.

Individual Time Trial

The course of the Individual Time Trial will be a 23.8 km circuit covering the road between the Great Wall Badaling section and Juyongguan section.

Men will complete two laps and women one lap of the course.

Competitors start at 2-minute intervals and at the end of the course, the rider with the fastest time is declared the winner. The maximum number of participants for the Individual Time Trial event will be 40 men and 25 women.
