A skiing legend
Jean-Claude Killy (FRA - Alpine skiing) became a skiing legend when he matched Toni Sailer's record by winning Olympic gold in all three Alpine skiing events. He won the downhill and the giant slalom, and then the slalom as a result of the controversial disqualification of Karl Schranz (AUT).
An overwhelming victory
As a competition, the Olympic contest was straightforward for Peggy Fleming (USA-figure skating). She built up a huge lead after the compulsory figures and easily won the first-place votes of all nine judges. She was the only American winner of the Games.
Toni Gustafsson takes the lead
Toini Gustafsson (SWE-cross country skiing) won the 10km race by more than one minute. In the 5km event, four seconds behind the leader with one kilometre to go, she accelerated and won. She completed her Olympic career by leading Sweden to second place in the relay.
