An astonishing performance
Dawn Fraser (AUS-swimming) won her third successive gold medal in the 100m freestyle. She was the first woman swimmer to win a total of eight medals (four gold and four silver) in three Olympics.
Fantastic Olympic records
Larisa Latynina (URS-gymnastics) added six new medals to her fantastic Olympic records. In three Olympics, she won nine gold, five silver and four bronze medals, making a total of eighteen.
Five medals in a row
Deszo Gyarmati (HUN-water polo) won the gold with the Hungarian team and thus achieved the unique feat of winning medals at five successive Olympic Games.
