(BEIJING, August 18) -- China claimed the first two Table Tennis Team gold medals in the history of Olympics. First in the Women's Team competition Sunday, then Monday when the Chinese trio Wang Hao, Ma Lin and Wang Liqin beat the German team with an overwhelming 3-0 win to gather the gold.

Wang Hao, World No.1, scored an easy win over Germany's Dimitrij Ovtcharov in three straight games. Ovtcharov tried to take the second game by leading out but was ultimately overcome by the powerful Wang.

In the second match, Ma Lin met Germany's Timo Boll who he has previous beaten four times in their 14 previous encounters. Ma took the first game 11-7. In the second game, Boll fought back with an 11-8 win. Yet Ma would not be outdone, returning to dominate Boll 11-4 in the third game and 11-7 in the fourth to seal the match.

The odds were then in China's favor heading into the Doubles match with a 2-0 lead. However, Wang Hao and Wang Liqin faced strong resistance from the German pair of Boll and Christian Suss who beat them in the first game. The Wangs wouldn't stand to lose another game and finally overtook the match 3-1.
