(BEIJING, August 16) -- Australia's David Crawshay and Scott Brennan claimed gold in the Men's Double Sculls, finishing in a time of 6:27.77 and giving Australia its second Rowing gold of the Beijing Olympics. Estonia's Tonu Endrekson and Juri Jaanson finished in 6:29.05 to take silver, just 0.05 seconds ahead of Matthew Wells and Stephen Rowbotham from Great Britain.
The Australian pair did not lose a race throughout the competition, surprising many with the impressive way they advanced to the final.
"I'm so shocked. We did what we wanted to do," said Crawshay after winning gold. "We were ahead after 1000 meters, and after that it was a case of 'You catch me, you beat me.' Just keep going."
Estonia had a slow start and was in fifth place at the 500m mark. They picked up their pace and were third at the 1500m mark and then surpassed Great Britain in the last 500m to take silver.
