Softball to reappear in the 2016 Olympic Games

Updated:2007-10-11

(BEIJING, October 11) -- The president of the International Softball Federation (ISF), Don Porter, promised to bring softball back to the 2016 Olympic Games.

It is said that baseball and softball games will be eliminated from the Olympic Games after 2008.

The International Women's Softball Challenge is underway in Beijing now. During his visit, Porter presented a "baseball return" plan formulated in June 2007 to help bring softball back to the Olympic family.

The plan includes allowing more organizations to join the ISF, cooperation with The International University Sports Federation, making softball a sports event at the Special Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, and donating sports equipment to more countries.

"I know to get back to the Olympic Games is not easy and we have to compete with many other sports and win the hearts of many IOC members. But I'm pretty optimistic about that," said Porter.
