Eventing
QUOTA TOTAL 75 riders and 75 horses
MAXIMUM PER NOC An NOC can enter a maximum of 1 team in the Team Competition (3 to 5 riders and horses). An NOC may only participate with a maximum of 3 riders in the Final Individual competition. For nations qualified only as individuals, the maximum per NOC shall be 2 riders and 2 horses.
ALLOCATION OF QUALIFICATION Qualification is allocated to the NOC, with open right to select from eligible riders and horses

QUALIFICATION SYSTEM PRINCIPLES – TEAM

| 2006 World Equestrian Games | The 5 best placed teams will qualify | 5 teams |
| 2007 FEI Pan-American Championship | The 2 best placed teams not already qualified from Olympic Group D (North America) and E (Central & South America) will qualify | 2 teams |
| 2007 Group F/G Championships (Africa & Middle East/ South East Asia) | The best placed team not already qualified will qualify | 1 team |
| 2007 European Championship | The best 2 placed teams not already qualified will qualify | 2 teams |
| "Composite" team | Should 10 team places not be allocated through the above process, the available places will be filled by 'composite teams' comprised of riders from an NOC qualified through the Individual Olympic Eventing Ranking List. The order of priority of the selection of the composite teams will be based on the combined highest 5 placings on the FEI Olympic Riders Ranking List from 1 NOC | (-) |

The NOCs of competitors placed first in each of the following regions will be qualified: | 7 riders |
| 1- North Western Europe – Olympic Group A 2- South Western Europe – Olympic Group B 3- Central & Eastern Europe, Central Asia Olympic Group C 4- North America – Olympic Group D 5- Central & South America – Olympic Group E 6- Africa & Middle East – Olympic Group F 7- South East Asia, Oceania – Olympic Group G |

| Additional riders will be taken in order of their classification in the FEI Olympic Riders Ranking List until the total number of 75 riders are qualified (maximum 5 riders per NOC) | (+) | |
| Host nation | The host nation CHN/HKG will qualify 1 individual if not otherwise qualified | 2 riders |
| Tripartite Commission Invitation | No place will be reserved for Tripartite Commission Invitations within the Equestrian quota. However, should NOC Invitation requests meet the identified criteria, these may be matched with any unused quota places in agreement between the IOC and the FEI | (-) |
