(BEIJING, February 24) -- The 1st AIBA European Olympic Qualification Tournament will start on Feb.25 at Reseto Degli Abruzzi, Italy, with participation from 235 athletes representing 42 countries, reported the AIBA official website on Sunday (local time).
During the first round of the Olympic qualification competition, the AIBA World Championships Chicago 2007, 40 European boxers claimed tickets for the Beijing Olympics. And the remaining 51 Olympic tickets will be distributed through the two rounds of continental qualifications, in Italy and Greece.
After the two-day preliminaries, boxers will enter the quarterfinals on Feb. 27. Olympic tickets are expected to go to eligible boxers during the semifinals on Saturday and finals on Sunday.
