(BEIJING, August 19) -- Defending champions Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor of the United States advanced to the final by making light work of the No. 6 seeds Renata Ribeiro and Talita Rocha of Brazil on Tuesday in a semifinal in the Women's Olympic Beach Volleyball competition.
The US duo maintained a five to six point lead through the whole first set, and May-Treanor's last-minute spike ended the one-sided set.
The second set wasn't much different. The Brazilian pair fought to take an early 4-3 lead; however, May-Treanor and Walsh quickly leveled the score at 5-5 and again took over the lead before they finished the set 21-14.
The victory also extended the U.S. duo's Olympic unbeaten record.
In the semifinal match between two Chinese teams, top-seeded Tian and Wang came back from one set down to defeat the No. 4 seeds Xue Chen and Zhang Xi.
The first set was fierce and ended 24-22. The second set was even more competitve, with Tian and Wang only managing a slim 29-27 vicotry.
In the tie-breaker, Tian and Wang took control and finished the set 15-8.
Tian and Wang will play Walsh and May-Treanor for the gold medal on Thursday. On the same day, Xue and Zhang will face Ribeiro and Rocha in the bronze medal match.
