
(BEIJING, August 18) -- Irving Saladino won the gold medal for Panama in the Men's Long Jump, the first gold for Panama in an Olympic Athletics event.
It is also Panama's third medal in the history of the modern Olympics.
Irving Saladino, 2007 world champion, jumped 8.34m to triumph at the Bird's Nest Monday, August 18.
Khotso Mokoena of South Africa grabbed silver with a 8.24m jump on his fourth attempt, and Cuban Ibrahim Camejo earned the bronze medal at 8.20m.
Missing was Olympic favorite, and the leader of the qualifying round, Louis Tsatoumas of Greece who failed to complete a single jump.
