With the opening of the Beijing Subway Line 5 on October 7, the city now has five public transport rail lines in operation, bringing additional relief to the city's traffic congestion. As the only subway line accessible to the Olympic Green, the Lateral Line has 4 stops and runs from Senlingongyuan Station in the north, passes through Olympic Green Station and Olympic Sports Center Station, and ends at Xiongmaohuandao Station in the south. The lateral line features the distinctive colors of the four seasons; the stations are vivified by green (Spring), blue (Winter) yellow (Autumn) and red (Summer).

Connecting the downtown area with the Capital International Airport, the under-construction Capital Airport Track will facilitate visitors coming in and out of the airport as a new express route.
When completed, customers will be able to get to the Airport from Dongzhimen subway station within 15 to 17 minutes.
Trains are expected to travel at a speed of 100 km/h. And the track will help to ease the increasing traffic congestion on the roads between the airport and downtown areas.

Construction work for the future Line 10 of Beijing Subway began on December 27, 2003. Nearly 25 km in length, Line 10 will have 22 stations and is to be completed in time for the Olympic Games next year.[Full story]
