(BEIJING, August 13) -- The Shenyang drainage office and the 42 drainage pump stations are operating smoothly, ready to cope with any flood emergencies, Shenyang Water (Group) Company, Ltd. told Shenyang Daily reporters on August 12.
Before the flood season began in Shenyang in early June, the city's drainage office started an overhaul of the pumps and electric equipment in all the drainage pump stations. Workers also cleared the silt from six or more water collecting ponds of the drainage pump stations to improve pumping capacity.
The drainage office's patrol teams, whenever it rained this summer, would rush to flooded streets or roads to study the causes and work out solutions. More than a hundred waterlogged spots were renovated through replacing damaged pipes or leveling low grounds.
The city's drainage office has also set up five emergency rescue teams that are equipped with special rescue vehicles, submerged pumps and dynamotors. Moreover, on some key stretches of road prone to floods, special personnel will be deployed to take charge, and if there is an emergency, immediate action will be taken for timely rescue efforts.
The city's water company has reiterated that when there is heavy rainfall, all of the 42 drainage pump stations will be operating in full capacity. If there is very heavy downpour, the city government may decide to open the sluice gates that lead to the Huihe River so that extra rain water can be dumped to the river sooner.
