(SHENYANG, August2) -- According to the Beijing Olympic Committee, 120 security checkpoints have been constructed at Shenyang Olympic Stadium to ensure spectator and athlete safety during football matches. Security personnel have also reached 2,000 members for the 100,000 square meter, 600,000 spectator capacity stadium.
Shenyang's Assistant Police Chief Liu Weijie explains, "The sports stadium will open to the public three hours before the start of the match. It has 120 security checkpoints and 400 security officers. We estimate that each spectator will take approximately 10.6 seconds to go through security, which means 600,000 spectators can go through security in less than half an hour." This estimate is pretty accurate since almost all twelve football matches that will be held in the stadium have been sold out.
Shenyang's city government also released 350,000 pamphlets on what to consider before going to a match, reminding spectators of security checkpoints and encouraging them to not bring too many bags to speed up the entire security process. Additionally, Shenyang has asked for student volunteers to position themselves 100 meters from the stadium to answer any questions as an additional measure to make sure all spectators enter the stadium in a safe and prompt manner.
