Neighboring Beijing West Railway Station, Lianhuachi Park (Lotus Pond Park)is regarded as the birthplace of Beijing.
Renovation of the park started in 1998 with a total investment of 35 million yuan, including three million yuan from the Beijing Municipal Planning Committee, five million yuan from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscape Architecture, one million yuan from the Beijing MunicipalAdmistration of Cultural Heritage and 26 million yuan from Fengtai District's government.
After two years' construction, the park opened to public on December 20, 2000.
