(BEIJING, February 13) -- Beijing registered 13 "blue sky" days in February and had a relatively lower pollutant average index of 58 in February compared with the previous Spring Festival period, wrote Beijing Daily on Wednesday.
A traditional way of celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year (Spring Festival), firecrackers explosions may affect the air quality. But the cold and strong winds that blew during the festival scattered the smoke in the air.
A pollutant index between zero to 50 marks Level-1 air quality (excellent) and Level-2 index between 51 to 100 marks a "Good" air quality.
In addition, thanks to firm efforts on environmental protection and a sharp decrease of the number of vehicles during the festival, the air quality of this year's winter heating season has greatly improved, according to Beijing municipal environmental watchdog.
