(BEIJING, July 3) -- A 10-week workshop to boost English proficiency among technical staff of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad was launched on Monday.

The full-time training gives 61 trainees an opportunity to practice listening, speaking, reading and writing in English.

BOCOG plans to train a total of 120 technicians from all BOCOG departments. The second workshop will be held later this year.

The attendants of the current workshop come from 14 competition management teams, covering such sports as tennis, badminton, judo, gymnastics, weightlifting, handball, taekwondo, basketball, shooting, athletics, baseball, diving, trampoline and table tennis.

English First (EF),a company selected by BOCOG as the Official Language Training Supplier of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, gives the training courses for the workshop.
