(BEIJING, June 18) -- A photo exhibition on the Beijing Olympic Games opened in Dakar, Senegal, on Tuesday, according to Xinhua.
Chinese ambassador to Senegal Lu Shaye updated the attendants on Beijing's preparatory work for the Olympics. The opening ceremony attracted several hundred visitors who were amazed by such Olympic projects as the National Stadium (the "Bird's Nest") and the National Aquatics Center (the "Water Cube").
On behalf of the embassy, Lu announced that he would donate 10 million African francs (about 22,000 U.S. dollars) to Senegalese athletes who will attend the Beijing Olympics. Meanwhile, Chinese enterprises in Senegal also donated a total of 24,000 U.S. dollars for the purpose.
Seeing the donations as evidence of friendly relations between China and Senegal, the Senegal side expressed thanks.
