(BEIJING, March 30) -- Twenty resident journalists from 10 news organizations of foreign countries toured the Beijing Municipal Center for Food Safety Monitoring on Friday.
Established in early 2004, the center is responsible for the technical guarantee of food safety control for the Beijing Municipality and the Beijing Olympic Games, said Wang Jianhua, deputy director of the Beijing Industrial and Commercial Administration.
Today, the center is capable of monitoring food safety and conducting information analysis on food safety, handling emergency cases, doing risks' assessment and early-warning, monitoring food safety for the Olympic Games, and is engaging in the application and transfer of food safety technologies.
The center has engaged in the research of food safety for the Olympic Games. For instance, it took part in the formulation of the action plan for food safety of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, including its 31 implementation annexes. It has also contributed to the formation of the Food Safety Experts' Commission for the Beijing Olympic Games.
During their visit to the laboratory of the center, the journalists from France, Germany and other countries saw a number of advanced equipment and apparatuses, such as gas chromatographs, chromatograph-mass spectrometers, liquid phase chromatographs, ultrahigh voltage liquid phase chromatographs and atomic absorption spectrographs.
