The transport service level for the Media has been based on the IOC rules and
requirements, successful experiences of the past Games and in line with the
actual traffic conditions in Beijing.
Arrival and Departure
Prior to the Opening Ceremony (from July 25 to August 7, 2008), the shuttle
services will be provided for the accredited media, accompanying baggage and
equipment from the Capital Airport to Media Accreditation Centre and BOCOG
appointed accommodation sites.
During the period from the Opening to the Closing Ceremonies (from August 8
to August 24,2008), shuttle services will be provided to/from the Capital
Airport and IBC/MPC and to/from IBC/MPC and BOCOG appointed accommodation
sites.
From August 25 to August 27, 2008, shuttle services will be provided between
BOCOG appointed accommodation sites and the Capital Airport.
Exclusive route shuttle services will be provided for the accredited media by
charter flights (Rights Holding Broadcasters, written and photographic press
included) between the Capital Airport and BOCOG appointed media accommodation
sites.
Opening and Closing Ceremonies
Transportation services will be delivered to the accredited media in groups
between IBC and MPC and media accommodation sites and to/from IBC/MPC and the
National Stadium.
IBC/MPC hub
A hub will be set up at the IBC/MPC, providing transport services for media
between IBC/MPC and venues, Media Villages and official media hotels, etc.
Shuttles between IBC/MPC Hub and Accommodations
Shuttles will be provided between the IBC/MPC and BOCOG appointed media
accommodation sites from 15 days before the Opening Ceremony and for three days
after the Closing Ceremony (from July 27 to August 27, 2008).
Shuttles between IBC/MPC Hub and Olympic Village
From 15 days before the Opening Ceremony and for one day after the Closing
Ceremony (July 27 to August 25,2008), shuttles will be provided between IBC/MPC
and the Olympic Village and operating times will be from 8:30 to 21:30.
Shuttles between IBC/MPC Hub and Competition Venues
From four days before the Opening Ceremony (August 4th 2008) to the final
event session in the venue, shuttles will be provided from IBC/MPC to
competition venues and back.
The first shuttle will reach the venues three hours before competition while
the last one will depart three hours after competition. Transportation services
will be provided between the first and the last shuttles according to
competition requirements.
The last shuttle will depart until media representatives finish working.
Shuttles between IBC/MPC Hub and Training sites
Shuttles will be provided between IBC/MPC and the training venues in
accordance with the "open to media" training schedule and 24-hour reservation in
advance is required so that shuttles will be delivered to the media as
needed.
Shuttles between Accommodations and Venues
Where a venue is close to the media accommodation site, a direct service will
be provided from the media accommodation site to the competition venue, 1 or 2
shuttles per day.
Shuttles between Competition Venues
Shuttles will be provided between venues or between the start and finish of
an event when a competition is across more than one venue such as Modern
Pentathlon or when there is distance between the start and finish of the event
such as Marathon and Road Cycling.
Where the venues are close to each other and the competition schedule in
these venues are the same period of time, a direct service will be provided
between these venues.
Media Loop for Olympic Green
Olympic Green will be an area in which 10 competition venues are located. In
order to facilitate the media in this area, 3 one-way loop lines will be
planned. Loop shuttles will be operated within the security perimeter and stops
will be set up at main venues and facilities.
Shuttles for Meeting and Activities
Shuttles will be provided for the accredited media between IBC/MPC and
activity sites, if press conferences and activities organized by IOC or BOCOG
are open to the media.
Transport service to Co-host Cities
Media can reach co-host cities, like Hong Kong, Qingdao, Tianjin, Shanyang,
Shanghai, Qinhuangdao, by air or railway. Media can take shuttles to Beijing
Capital International Airport or Beijing Railway Station at IBC/MPC. Upon
arrival in co-host cities, the co-host cities are responsible for local
transport services.
Rate Card Vehicles
BOCOG provides rate card vehicles and Vehicle Access and Parking Permits
(VAPPs) for the media which will be reserved through rate card.
Rate card vehicles include 5 or 7 seats Audi, VW vehicles. All types of
vehicles have air-conditioning and manual and automatic control are
available.
VAPPs for Rate card vehicles will be distributed in line with the rules
concerned and the parking capacity of venues.
Taxi Service
Taxi points will be set up near the IBC/MPC, Media Villages, competition
venues and other main Olympic facilities to provide paid taxi services for the
media.
Policy for Access and Parking
Direct shuttles from IBC/MPC hub to Media Villages and competition venues
will be free from security checks and will be able to enter the security
perimeter directly. The policy for clean zone to clean zone will be implemented
for convenience of the media.
Vehicle access and parking permits will be offered based on rules concerned,
venues and parking spaces.
Shuttles from media hotels to the IBC/MPC hub and venues will stop outside of
the security perimeter and the drop-off /pick-up points are close to the media
entrance.
ENG and Photo Pool drop-off /pick-up points will be arranged as close as
possible to the media entrance.
Vehicles with VAPPs including rate card vehicles and self-provided vehicles
should be parked at rate card vehicle parking area outside the venues.
Equipment of media shuttles
All the shuttles will be equipped with Venue Guides and Maps in English and
Chinese, radios or other types of communication devices so as to facilitate
drivers' contact with clients, transport operation and dispatch offices.
Olympic Lane
Olympic lanes will be marked on the arteries in the city to connect with the
venues and important facilities. The Olympic lanes will ensure that media
vehicles with VAPPs can arrive at the venues safely and conveniently.
Signage
Special road signage for the Games will be installed in accordance with the
plan, so as to provide accurate and convenient guidance for OF members and
spectators. The signage will be broken into three types, including urban road
way-finding traffic signs outside the venues, traffic signs inside the venues
and public information signs inside the venues.
