Reporter from Russia

Russian reporter

Good morning, Mr. Yang. I'm from Russia. I have a question for you.

What is the total budget for the scientific and technological projects? And how much does the city actually spend on this? And another question is also for you, about the electricity cars. As for the ten days? Was that ten days before the Olympic Games, or ten days from now? And can you specify about the territory of the vehicles that can cover.

Yang Weiguang

From today, ten days later, the electronic cars will be used until the end of the Olympic Games. The areas are within the Olympic common domain.

Russian reporter

Are there the area that inside the fence now?

Yang Weiguang

Yeah, first I would like to say, for the area of the operation of the electronic vehicles is now under discussion during the hand-over ceremony. So after the discussion, I think there will be specific information released. For the common domain of operation of the zero emission electronic vehicles, to achieve this, we have already put research and implementation of the electronic vehicles, such as electronic buses in Beijing for operation.

For your first question, I don't get some specific data on this issue. The emphasis of today's conference is about high-tech innovation in Olympic projects. For this question, I would like to recommend my colleagues from the National Bureau of Statistics and Auditing Department to answer you.

It is a complicated calculation of the high-tech innovation but I will give you the input from government, society and organizations. We are now making the calculation.

Sun Weide

For high-tech innovation in these Olympic projects, of course, it is directly related to the Olympics but also related to long term development of the Beijing city.

The maintenance cost of the Olympic venues after the Olympic?

Ding Jianming

First I would like to make a conceptual clarification. For those high-tech innovations, we only have to input a lot at the initial stage. But they will give us big return and benefit after the implementation and utilization of the facilities. For the after Games maintenance, usually, the cost is even lower than the ordinary facilities. And also, the use of new energy, like what you are saying about the solar energy, at the initial stage, we also have to invest a lot. But for maintenance, it doesn't have to cost a lot. For water utilization, we also initially invest a lot but in the later stage, because we get water from rain water, it is gifted by the heaven so we can save a lot of water resources.

Beijing Youth Daily

I am from Beijing youth daily. I am really interested in the zero emission vehicles. I would like to ask you to share some data such as number of these vehicles, cost on making these vehicles, and after the Olympics, the spread of these vehicles in the society. Will it be restrained by the Beijing city's transport department? The second question is related to whether the journalists can take a look at these vehicles.

Yang Weiguang

To answer the first question, the use of these vehicles has already been covered by a lot of media, This April, the International Beijing high-tech week, and it is already covered by a lot of media friends. You can search on line and get a lot of information related to that.

Sun Weide

If media friends are available, maybe sometimes we can arrange some trips to have a look at these vehicles.

First Financial News

I am from First Financial News. I would like to ask Mr. Yang what happened in Chinese technology companies participating in these projects?

Yang Weiguang

Good question, and I think that the Chinese top high-tech companies are the main entities of the high-tech innovation. During the construction, we have incorporated the high-tech industry into research and into the study so we have set up principles that the enterprise should be the main entities of the projects. And the projects should guided by the market. So we have used modernized resources in these enterprises. I believe that there are more than several top-class Chinese enterprises participating in the Olympic construction. And maybe Mr. Ding is more familiar with this topic than me.

Ding Jianming

It is difficult to answer because I am not in a position to define all those top class, cutting edge technologies processed by these companies. I can only tell you which companies are participating in the projects.

Including the technology research and development and application of these technologies, a lot of Chinese designing companies and research companies and universities have participated in the projects, such as the National Stadium. Actually, the design is a collection of domestic and foreign wisdoms.

The two major designers, one is from Herzog & de Meuron of Switzerland and the other is from two enterprises of China Architecture Design and Research Group. There are also a lot compliance organizations participating in those projects of research and development. It is difficult to count all of them and it takes too much time, such as the experts and scholars from China's Steel Structural Association. They have played a very active role in the construction of the projects. Because the design is very difficult, there are also a lot of construction organizations, such as the Beijing Urban Construction Group, which participated in the construction of Bird's Nest. So, there are a lot of obstacles in the construction. It was participated by a lot of organizations.

The production of the steel product, for example the Q460 steel is designed and manufactured by Wu Yang Steel Company. And it reached a high standard, which is even higher than our county's metallurgy standard.

I can only say that there are so many participants participating in the Olympic projects. If you like to list them all, it will take too long to talk about different companies.

I am from CCTV. My question goes to Mr. Yang. In your media release, there is one issue related to the wood plastic compact new material. I would like to ask the percentage of these materials used. How much the cost will be saved? And also in this building, are some materials used by this wood plastic compact material?

Yang Weiguang

For this material it is a compact product and the wood is a waste wood so it can save a lot of energy and materials. There are two aspects of the applications of this product. First it can be used as decoration material. Second in the cementing process, it can be used as modular to replace the wood modular. So, from the scientific aspects, I can only talk about these two aspects. And for the application, Mr. Ding can answer you

Ding Jianming

I would like to share some examples of applications of this material. As for the feature of such material, it got some shape and feeling of the wood. And it is combined with plastic to make it more flexible and last longer. This material is applied in the brown decoration line of the buildings in the Olympic Village. And it is also applied to landscape and the manufacture of some furniture.

And in the Olympic common domain, forest park and also in the Olympic village, if you notice, some decorations on bridges, and chairs and shelters and shelves are also made by this material. Just now you mentioned the percentage of the use of such materials. I can't give you the specific data, but I can confirm that for all these places and furniture and landscapes that can be replaced by this material, we have all used this material.

Just now you also mentioned whether in this building we have used this material. We haven't specifically checked or examined here. But I can reassure that in the Olympic projects, we have all used the compact materials, which can reach high standard and less environment impact. We have used all kinds of compact material, and this material is one of them.

Sun Weide

Next Tuesday, at 11 a.m. on 15th July, we will also invite people from Beijing Tourism Bureau to talk about tourist receptions and hospitality.
