(BEIJING, October 12) -- A new channel on the official website of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will be available as the 300-day countdown to the Games arrives this weekend. The "Learn Foreign Languages with Fuwa" channel will provide tools for users of the official website to acquire basic conversation skills in Putonghua, English, and French.
Users will be able to learn how to accurately say a new phrase each day -- that's 300 phrases by August 8, 2008.
French and English versions of "Learn Foreign Languages with Fuwa" will offer non-Chinese speakers the resources to learn a new Chinese phrase each day. And to accommodate operating systems that cannot display Chinese characters properly, the content for learning Chinese phrases will be displayed in a graphical file format. An audio recording with a standardized pronunciation of the corresponding Chinese phrase will also be available.
Likewise, Chinese website users will be able to learn simple, useful phrases that might come in handy next summer with visitors from around the world. The lessons on the Chinese version of "Learn Foreign Languages with Fuwa" present a written format of the phrases in English and French, along with the corresponding audio recordings.
In addition, users will have the option to print handy "conversation cards" to carry with them for reference.
