Students are taking a class that combines Olympic culture with traditional Chinese handicrafts - paper-cutting.

Set up in 1954, the No. 2 Dayu Primary School in Mentougou District of Beijing used to be a factory-run school for the off-springs of coal miners. In 1978 it was named the Key Primary School of Beijing.

They believe that Olympic is a masterpiece of mankind, whose influence is not only on sports but also on policy, economy, philosophy, culture, art and media. Pierre de Coubertin, the founder, attempted to educate the youths in a new way and to enable to develop both in physical and mental by spreading Olympic idea. Olympic is the result of civilization, which is valuable for education.

In recent years, the school has carried out a series of activities to integrate Olympic education with the curriculum system, such as social studies, physical education, arts, Chinese language and literature, math, music and English. The students have studies the national conditions, customs of other countries as well as the Olympic history and the rules of the Olympic sports. In addition, the school has involved students in various activities on the theme of environmental protection and social civility in the run-up to the Beijing Games.

The school has actively followed the footsteps of the preparatory work for the Olympiad It used its publicity resources such as broadcast facility and tabloid to update the information. On the occasion of unveiling of the Olympic slogan and mascots as well as the 1000-day countdown to the Olympiad. On the eve of 2006, the school held a contest of Olympic Cards, an Olympic quiz and called on students to take part in the design of Beijing Olympic torch.

The school and the Hong Kong Chaoyang Primary School have been tied in a project called the Olympics in Beijing. Through the internet, the students of both schools have been able to get fresh knowledge about what has happened in Beijing and Hong Kong and how Beijing is preparing for the 2008 Games. On July 12, 2005 the "Olympic Ambassadors" of Chaoyang School came to visit their Beijing counterparts, bringing the friendly communication between the two schools to a new high.
