(BEIJING, October 21) -- Jay Chou has announced that he would participate in the Beijing Olympic Games song search campaign. Chou, an acclaimed musician from Chinese Taipei, was in Beijing on Sunday to record an episode of the Beijing Television Station (BTV) show Olympic Songfest, where he announced a worldwide contest for the lyrics to a Beijing 2008 Olympic Games song for which he would later compose the music.

On the Olympic Songfest set, Chou treated the studio audience to a few of his classic songs and even performed basketball tricks and demonstrated his nunchuck skills.

And he used the opportunity to open the Olympic song lyric contest to the public. Chou, mainly a singer-composer, often collaborates with lyricist Vincent Fang. But because of the immense scope of the Olympic song, Chou hopes to involve as many music fans as possible in order to create the best song possible.

In terms of the criteria for the song's lyrics, Chou says that the song must have a Chinese flair. He already has some ideas for the music, which will have a little bit of rock and roll and electric guitar.

"The effect we want is to surprise foreign audiences," says Chou.

Wang Pingjiu, who heads the Olympic song search campaign, is excited that Jay Chou is able to lend his support to the campaign. Wang promises that any lyrics received by the Olympic song search campaign office for the contest would immediately be forwarded on to Jay Chou for review.
