(BEIJING, August 14) -- Since the Olympic Cultural Square Program kicked off on July 13, colorful and diverse forms of activities have been arranged in public squares around the city, including performances by both domestic and international professional troupes, dance teams and choruses from China's urban and rural communities, Ruan Lanyu, Deputy Chief Inspector of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture, said at a press conference on August 14. The Olympic Cultural Squares will also provide the public with large-screen broadcast of the games, cultural exhibits, Olympic souvenir exchange.
According to statistics, from July 13 to August 14, the Olympic Cultural Squares received 1,462,600 tourists and arranged 279 various performances. Since the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony on August 8, the Cultural Squares have been broadcasting the Olympics Games on big screens, attracting some 416,000 tourists.
Ruan said that a greater variety of activities will be held in the Olympic Cultural Squares in the following days.
