Chinese Gold Medalists Kick Off 6th Sports and Fitness Festival

(BEIJING, June 25) -- Chinese gold medalist Luo Wei was among numerous Olympians who were on hand to kick off the second Fitness Day during the three-week, 6th Beijing Physical Fitness and Sports Festival.

The 6th Beijing Physical Sports and Fitness Festival in Haidian District will run daily until July 13.

During its run, Festival goers can participate in various themed activities, including many aimed at physical fitness; a "university students and the Olympics" event; qigong demonstrations at 10 major gardens and the Second "Four Season Green Cup" to celebrate the one-year countdown to the Games of the XXIX Olympiad.

Luo, a gold medalist at the 2004 Athens Summer Games for 67kg division in Taekwondo, was on hand as well as Sang Xue, a gold medalist at the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympic Games in the Synchronized 10m platform competition.

The Festival kicked-off last weekend with a rousing opening ceremony, group fitness walk and strength training activities. The Festival seeks to educate participants about physical fitness and includes physical fitness pamphlets distribution, physical fitness tests and informational booths.

After the opening ceremony, event's leaders, sports guests and representatives of the various Haidian and Xiangshan agencies participated in a 2km group fitness walk. Additionally, there were qigong demonstrations, fitness tests, exercise information booths, ballroom dance and other fun physical activities for the enjoyment of the more than 2,000 daily event attendees.
