(BEIJING, January 14) -- The exterior of the Beijing Olympic Basketball Gymnasium is made of aluminum alloy boards and is capable of reflecting 80 percent of the heat generated by far-infrared.
Compared to ordinary glass, the alloy boards can result in energy savings of 60 percent in the summer and 70 percent in the winter.
Located in the western part of Beijing, it covers 168,000 sq m with three floors underground and four floors aboveground. It can accommodate 18,000 spectators as they watch exhilarating games at the venue.
It will undergo the test of the women's basketball invitational tournament on April 19 as part of a "Good Luck Beijing" pre-Olympic event and witness the lottery ceremony of the Olympic basketball competitions.
