Triathlon Venue construction winds up thanks to dedicated workers

(BEIJING, September 11) -- Construction workers have been hard at work finishing up alterations to the Triathlon Venue since June 21. Exerting their best efforts into accomplishing this great task, the workers have not complained, and moreover they have felt a sense of honor to be able to participate in an Olympic project.

Alterations to the Triathlon Venue included five parts:

1. Dam platform: A raised platform to be used for transitions between the Triathlon disciplines, measuring 546 m in length and 27 m in width, was constructed at the foot of the dam. The location of the transitions platform will give spectators in the stands a full view of the entire swim discipline.

2. Spectator stands: The modified bleachers can now accommodate 5,300 spectators; by the Olympics, the bleachers will be able to hold 10,000 spectators. Additionally there is room for 170 journalists.

3. Functional rooms and auxiliary buildings: During the Games, a 6,000 sq. m. office from the Jiulong Amusement Park among other existing buildings will be leased for use by the Triathlon Venue.

4. Dongsha River right bank road: A new 680-m stretch of the Dongsh River Road has been built on the edge of the Ming Tombs Reservoir to accommodate the Triathlon's bike discipline.

5. "Greener" environment and electric and water utility installations: Changping District's mission is to repair all utility installations in the venue's surrounding area. Additionally, it will lay 4,150 sq m of brick to protect plants, and plant 6,300 sq m of grass, 17,000 bushes, 50,100 various plants, etc.
