(BEIJING, September 11) -- As the venue for the 11th Asian Games, the National Olympic Sports Center Stadium, established in 1990, was once the stadium of its time.
In the 1990s, with its advanced facilities, it stood out among national stadiums. As the years passed, however, this once splendid stadium looked worn.
Now, after a thorough transformation, this aged stadium of former glory is presented in a fresh new manner for the forthcoming "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final.
Two functions, the track and the football field, have been reserved in the Olympic Sports Center Stadium after transformation. According to Mr. Feng Huabin, officer of Olympic Sports Center project department, although the football field has been transformed into an equestrian jumping field, it can be restored as a football field in very little time, since the requirements of the two functions were both taken into consideration during construction. He said that the reservation of the original functions of the track and the field creates ideal conditions for multiple operations.
Besides training and competition for the national team, the field can also hold major international and national athletic events, football and seven-a-side-rugby games, comprehensive sports meets. It provides an exercise field for the general public and can be used for football training, and track and field training.
In addition, the builders have reserved many conditions for future expansion in terms of pipeline facilities, electrical load and construction design. All the potential expansion areas have been reserved with pipeline facilities and electrical loads. All the rooms in the stadium are large. The sponsors' hall can be further expanded to twice its current size by adding beams. All these reservations provide convenience for the after-Games multi-operational transformation.
