(BEIJING, September 13) -- The Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium was equipped with a new roof to reduce energy consumption in an extension project.
The Olympic Sports Center Gymnsium was first established for the 11th Asian Olympic Games. After 17 years' use, it looks old now. The purpose of the extension project is to refresh the stadium.
The designers put on a "coat" for the gymnasium so that the energy consumption would be greatly reduced.
On the outer wall of the gymnasium, a layer of thermal insulation materials was added. Doors and windows capable of heat preservation were installed as well.
The roof materials were also changed to new materials that are used in the China Theater, which can preserve heat and absorb noise. The new materials have better strength, durability and erosion resistance capability.
The Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium will hold the preliminary and quarterfinal handball events and serve as the training venue for goalball, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing and wheelchair rugby for the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
