
(BEIJING, December 18) -- Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA) Gymnasium began to receive improvements via an expansion project beginning January 30, 2007. Ten months later, after quality supervision by the municipal government office in charge of engineering and construction and Haidian District office, BUAA Gymnasium has passed inspection by the various International Sports Federations.
According to university president Ji Suju the concepts of "Green Olympics," "High-Tech Olympics" and "People's Olympics" served as the starting points for the entire expansion project for BUAA Gymnasium.
The gymnasium adopts nature-friendly material and equipment and has passed inspection by the relevant energy conservation departments. BUAA Gymnasium makes use of high-efficiency heat insulation and sound insulation materials, a heat redistribution system and water conservation equipment, among environmentally friendly features.
Moreover, BUAA Gymnasium has 2,600 temporary seats that can be easily disassembled for re-use.
