

(BEIJING, June 18) -- Commemorative coins for three sports of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad -- Football, Fencing and Modern Pentathlon -- will be issued on June 18, 2008, the People's Bank of China has announced.
All three coins share a common obverse design, which shows the emblem of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games with an image of the track at National Stadium, the main competition venue for Beijing 2008. The Chinese characters for "People's Republic of China" are embossed across the upper edge, and "2008" is embossed on the lower edge.


The reverse side of the commemorative Beijing 2008 Olympic Football coin shows a Fuwa, the mascot of the 2008 Olympics, kicking a football. The face value of the coin, 1 yuan, is embossed on the upper left side. The Chinese characters for "Games of the XXIX Olympiad" are embossed along the lower edge.
The reverse side of the commemorative Beijing 2008 Olympic Fencing coin shows a Fuwa holding a fencing sword. The face value of the coin, 1 yuan, is embossed on the upper right side. The Chinese characters for "Games of the XXIX Olympiad" are embossed along the lower edge.

The reverse side of the commemorative Beijing 2008 Modern Pentathlon coin shows a Fuwa participating in a pentathlon. The face value of the coin, 1 yuan, is embossed on the upper right side. The Chinese characters for "Games of the XXIX Olympiad" are embossed along the lower edge.

All three commemorative coins measure, 25mm in diameter and are made of a brass alloy. They have a face value of 1 yuan and a limited mintage of 1,000. These coins can be used as legal tender.
