Liu Qi

Mr. Liu Qi -- President of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG)

Liu began his professional career in June 1968 and with an MA in Iron-Smelting, he graduated from the Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Engineering and became a professor of engineering upon graduation. Later, he became the General-Manager of Wuhan Iron & Steel Corporation and Minister of the Metallurgical Industry.

Liu was the President of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bid Committee during his term as Mayor of Beijing and has been serving as BOCOG President since the establishment of the organization in December 2001. He is now a member of the Political Bureau of the 17th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Secretary of the Beijing Municipal CPC Committee.
