
(BEIJING, August 2) -- On Saturday, donations amounting to 8 million US dollars were collected for earthquake relief efforts at a ceremony involving the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) and the Beijing Olympic Committee (BOCOG).
Jaques Rogge, IOC President, admired the Chinese for their strong support of earthquake relief efforts, and represented the IOC in expressing deep condolences.

Liu Peng, COC President, sent thanks to those around the world that stood in friendship with China after the Sichuan earthquake. He believes that under the strong leadership of the central government and through the hard work of Chinese citizens, earthquake victims will overcome their hurdles successfully.

Li Chongxi, deputy secretary of Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, accepted the donations on behalf of the Sichuan people.
