(BEIJING, June 18) – The general command of the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games held its first meeting to discuss Games preparations on Wednesday, June 18.
Discussions followed updates on the preparations for the Paralympic Torch Relay from BOCOG Executive President Deng Pufang, the reception of international VIPs from Beijing Mayor and BOCOG Executive President Guo Jinlong, and matters concerning the Games preparatory work from Vice-Mayor and BOCOG Executive Vice-President Liu Jingmin.
BOCOG President Liu Qi, who chaired the meeting, stressed the need to seriously study and carry out instructions of General Secretary Hu Jintao to ensure quality preparations for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Games general command has begun operations and in the near future will do a detailed assessment of its operational systems regulations in order to find ways to improve, Liu said.
Liu urged Games organizers to put security first, attach importance to details and conduct effective rehearsals to improve operational capabilities and forge a solid foundation for the Games. He especially underlined the need to provide quality services for various groups of clients.
Present at the meeting were Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, state councilor and BOCOG vice-president; Chen Zhili, vice-chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and BOCOG vice-president; and Dai Bingguo, state councilor.
