Jacques Rogge: Russia’s Sochi will Host a “Wonderful Olympics”

Moscow, on May 30 (Xinhua News Agency), Rogge, the IOC President, met with Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, in Saint Petersburg on May 30, he expected that the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games would be a “wonderful” global sporting event.


Jacques Rogge said the IOC was satisfied of the preparatory work of Sochi Olympic Winter Games made by Russia, and Russia had made a great contribution. He also said, “The preparatory work is rapidly advancing, and we look forward to a wonderful Sochi Winter Olympics.”


Jacques Rogge showed that the IOC delegation had been warmly received in Saint Petersburg, which proved the support of Russia to the Games. He said he would visit Russia again in August to attend the 2013 Moscow Track and Field World Championships.


Putin promised to Rogge that Russia would organize an excellent Olympic Winter Games.


The 22th Olympic Winter Games will be held in Sochi, the coastal city of the Black Sea in Russia, from February 7, 2014 to February 23, 2014, which will be the first Olympic Winter Games held in Russia. It was reported that the total investment for the Sochi Olympic Winter Games would be up to 1.5 trillion rubles (about $ 50 billion).
