“Sport, Happiness & Health” Beijing Olympic Education Series Activities for Primary and Secondary Schools

Activity time: April 12, 2012

Brief introduction: These are a series of activities aiming to popularize sports skills amongst the youth, promote the youth’s physical health and fitness, motivate primary and secondary school students’ enthusiasm of participating physical exercise and cultivate the youth’s sports spirit of fighting and cooperation for the purposes of inheriting Olympic Spirits and promoting the youth's Olympic education. These activities rely on Olympic Demonstration Schools, Beijing Olympic Education Sports Reserve Talents Training Base Schools and Traditional sports project school.

In 2012, the organization committee, based on the successful holding of 2010 and 2011 Beijing Olympic Education Series Activities for Primary and Secondary Schools, will take the opportunity of London Olympic Games and make an integration of the youth sports events resources in the whole city’s education and sports system as well as an extension for athletic events with the theme of “Carry forward Olympic spirit, put Beijing spirit into practice”. The Organization Committee plans to carry out ten major activities and twelve events all through the year, which will greatly enrich the content of Olympic Education Series Activities.

Activity arrangement:

Ten major activities will be carried out in stages all through the year.

1. “Sport, Happiness & Health” Launch ceremony of Beijing Olympic Education Series Activities for Primary and Secondary Schools

Time: April 8 (Sunday)

Location: Ditan Gymnasium

Content: Leaders of the Organization Committee launch the yearly related events and a series of activities.

2. Beijing Reserve Talents Selection and Cultivation Symposium for Campus Football

Time: At the end of February

Location: People's University High School

Content: In order to fully promote the students' physical health and fitness, carry out football activities in the primary and secondary schools across the city, popularize football knowledge and skills, and finally establish an integrated cultivation system of youth football talents relying on schools and combining sports and education, the Organization Committee decides to hold the Reserve Talents Selection and Cultivation Symposium for Campus Football.

3. London Interschool Exchange

Time: July

Location: London

Content: Olympic Demonstration Schools go to London for exchange visits with friendly schools during the Olympic Games.

4. “Sport, Happiness & Health” Beijing Pupil Football Camp

Time: At the end of the August

Location: Capital Institute of Physical Education

Content: 50 pupils will be organized to participate in the football summer camp with the theme of “Share Olympic, Grow Healthily”. Each district or county is required to select two or three pupils to enroll in the camp. The summer camp will employ well-known coaches to conduct centralized training for the campers to promote the football development of Beijing youth as well as communications amongst the districts and counties.

5. “Learn About English Premier League” Physical Education Teacher Training

Time: At the end of the August

Location: Capital Institute of Physical Education

Content: To cooperate with international famous football clubs such as clubs from English Premier League, invite coaches from English Premier League to come to Beijing to give a seven days’ “Learn about English Premier League” Football Coach Training for 40 basic physical education teachers selected by the districts or counties in Beijing, thus to improve the quality of teachers for campus football.

6. “Sport, Happiness & Health” Beijing Primary and Secondary School Students Drawing, Photography, and Cartoon Contest

Time: From April to October

Content: This game takes campus sports culture as its creation materials to give full play to the youth students’ mental of actively participating in physical exercise and promoting Olympics with the theme of ”Share Olympic, Grow Healthily” and “ Blessing for Beijing , Words for London”.

7. “Sport, Happiness & Health” Summary Commendation Conference of Beijing Olympic Education Series Activities for Primary and Secondary School Students

Time: October 28 (Sunday)

Location: Undetermined

Content: To hold the ”Share Olympic, Grow Healthily” Summary Commendation Conference of Beijing Olympic Education Series Activities for Primary and Secondary School Students, summarize and issue the awards generated from football, Olympic Base Schools’ Track and Field Sports Meeting, drawing, photography, essay and mass sports competitions and arrange the awarded students to display relevant achievements.

8. “Sport, Happiness & Health” Olympic Education Winter Camp

This camp plans to select excellent teacher and student representatives who have had good performances in the 2012 Olympic Education Series Activities to go to the Olympic city, Barcelona, for a seven days’ winter camp in January, 2013. This camp also intends to conduct exchange activities with the local youth.

9. “My Olympic” Youth Experience Camp

This camp plans to organize and select around 100 excellent teenagers spotted in various activities to attend the “My Olympic” Youth Experience Camp cosponsored by Beijing Olympic City Development Association (BODA) and National Stadium.

10. Olympic Education and Research

An activity of paper collection is planned to be carried out in June and July with the theme of “Carry forward Olympic spirit, put Beijing spirit into practice”. This activity calls up all the primary and secondary school teachers to attend actively to fully the youth’s positive mental outlooks of enthusiasm and energy in taking physical exercise.

Events arrangement

In order to further promote the sports development of the city’s primary and secondary school students, the organization committee will take the opportunity of London Olympic Games, inherit the Olympic Spirits and carry out a series of competitive sports events and mass sports activities based on our city's Primary and Secondary School Campus Football Game. All the events shall be themed by “Carry forward Olympic spirit, put Beijing spirit into practice” with the unified slogan of “Sport, Happiness & Health”.

1.”Share Olympic, Grow Healthily” “Olympic City Cup” Beijing Primary and Secondary School Campus Football Game

(1) First stage: Nation Youth Campus Football League (Beijing Division)

Time: From March to June

(2) Second stage: Beijing Youth Baidui Football Game

Time: From July to August

(3) Third Stage: Beijing Primary and Secondary School Student Football League

Time: From October to November

(4) Fourth stage: “JinFan Cup” Beijing Middle School Student Football Game

Time: January, 2013

2. Beijing Track and Field Sports Meeting for Olympic Education School Sports Reserve Talents Training Base

Time: At the beginning of May

Content: This is a Track and Field Sports meeting participated by 15 Olympic Education School Sports Reserve Talents Training Bases. The sports meeting are divided into five groups by ages. 14 events of 100m race, 200m race, 400m race, 1500m race, triple jump, high jump, short put and javelin throwing etc. are set in this sports meeting.

3. Beijing Primary and Secondary School Students Basketball League

Time: From October to November

Content: The game will be divided into two groups, high level group and ordinary school group. Each group will include nine group categories, respectively are high school boy’s Group A and Group B, high school girls’ Group A and Group B, middle school boys’ Group A and Group B, middles school girls’ Group, primary school boys’ group and primary school girls’ group. Each group will be ranked according to their scores in preliminary contest and final contest.

4.”Share Olympic, Grow Healthily” Beijing Primary and Secondary School Students Mass Sports Game

Time: From March to October

Content: This includes a series of mass sports activities such as Beijing Primary and Secondary School Students Rope Skipping Contest, Shuttlecock Kicking Contest,  Puttee Run Contest, Roller Skating Contest, Martial Art Aerobic Contest, Hiking Contest, Ethnic Traditional Sports Game, Mass Aerobic Contest and so on. These activities aim to demonstrate the various sports activities for adolescents and children in our city. See the detailed contents as follows:

(1) Beijing Primary and Secondary School Students Rope Skipping Contest

Each county or district shall hold a division contest and select out respectively two secondary schools and two primary schools to participate in the municipal finals. The finals include solo event, duet event and group event. Each group category will select out the first eight schools and counts by school team scores.

(2) Beijing Primary and Secondary School Students Shuttlecock Kicking Game

Each county or district shall hold a division contest and select out respectively two secondary schools and two primary schools to participate in the municipal finals. The finals include middle school boys’ group, middle school girls’ group, primary school boys’ group and primary school girls’ group, totally four groups, as well as one-minute kicking with single inside foot, one-minute kicking by changing inside feet (disc-type playing) and one-minute playing by changing knees (knocking playing), three other events.  Each group category will select out the first eight schools and counts by school team scores.

(3) Beijing Primary and Secondary School Students Puttee Run Game

The puttee run game aims to promote primary and secondary school students’ sports spirits of cooperation and marching forward. Each county or district shall hold a division contest and select out the winning teams from secondary schools and primary schools to participate in the municipal finals. The game will be conducted in the form of thirteen-legged race. Each group category will select out the first eight teams.

(4) Beijing Children Rubber Band skipping Game

Rubber band skipping game is a fun game of sports and art conducted for primary and secondary school students all across the city. The game adopts collective optional form. Each school, youth palace, and children’s club are required to organize a representative team to participate in the game. The game will finally select out the first prize, second prize, and third prize from each group category.

(5) Beijing Primary and Secondary School Students Roller Skating Game

The roller skating game is divided into high school boys’ group and girls’ group, middle school boys’ group and girls’ group as well as primary school boy’s group A, group B and girls’ group A and group B, totally eight groups. It also includes fun games of 25m snake-like obstacle shuttle run and 10m front crossing obstacle shuttle run as well as competition races of 300m and 1000m. Each group category will select out the first eight schools and counts by school team scores.

(6). 2012 Beijing Primary and Secondary School Students – National Primary and Secondary School Students Martial Art Aerobics Contest

National Primary and Secondary School Students Martial Art Aerobics Contest was first approved in 2010 and then began its promotion of a set of martial art aerobics with both features of martial arts and aerobics across the national primary and secondary schools. This contest is divided into two groups of middle school group and primary school group, and includes four events of Rising Sun, Flying Eagle, Youth Hero and Youth Kong fu. Each category will select out the first prize, second prize and third prize respectively from primary schools and secondary schools.

(7) 2012 Beijing Primary and Secondary School Students Hiking Contest

The hiking contest is a new type of race which combines physical exercise, feeling nature as well as understanding of culture. This contest aims to gradually promote the students’ physical fitness and volition quality.

The game will be conducted by setting tasks, completing tasks and evaluating results. Hiking skills, outdoor survival skills as well as comprehensive abilities of Investigation and presentation will be considered in the evaluation.

(8) Beijing Sunshine Youth Sports Talents Competition

Beijing Sunshine Youth Sports Talents Competition includes “Sports Model”, “Happy Basketball”, “Morality Sports”, “Fun Skating”, and “Table Football”, “Disaster Prevention Sports”, “Environmental Sports” as well as many other forms of fun games. These contests are held to enrich campus sports culture and motivate students’ enthusiasm in sports.

(9) 2012 Beijing Primary School and Secondary School Students Ethnic Traditional Sports Game

In order to inherit national ethnic traditional sports and promote Chinese sports culture, the game includes China yo-yo, iron hoop, flower stick playing, cuqiu, rubber band skipping and shuttlecock kicking, pearl ball as well as many other sports events. The game is divided into primary school group A and group B and middle school group to decide the final rankings.

(10) 2012 Beijing Primary and Secondary School Students Aerobic Competition

This game aims to demonstrate the primary and secondary school students’ good spirits with the theme of health, energy and passion. The game includes three groups of primary school, middle school and high school, and decides the ranking according the group total score.

5. Beijing Primary and Secondary School Students Mind Sports Games (Holding time: from April to December)

The first Beijing Primary and Secondary School Students Mind Sports Games achieved good social effects. Thus the Organization Committee decides to add events to the Games based on the existing scale. Apart from the existing events of bridge, draughts, international chess, Weichi, Chinese chess and five-piece game, Sudoku will be added to the student group. The Primary and Secondary School Students Mind Sports Games will be held in our city from March to October, and the award-winning players will have chances to exchange with masters in December.
