Sports career:

She started playing table tennis at the age of five. Deng joined the Zhengzhou table tennis team instead of the Henan provincial team for being too short. However, she won both the team and singles titles in a national junior tournament at 10, and then she was later taken on by the Henan provincial team. Deng joined the national team in 1988.

1992 Barcelona Olympic Games - 1st singles & doubles
1996 Atlanta Olympic Games - 1st singles & doubles


Honors:

-Reputed as the "Table Tennis Queen" and "Short Giantess"

 

At Present:

After studying in Tsinghua University, Cambridge University and Nottingham University and attained the degree of Bachelor of English and the degree of Master of the Contemporary Era of China, Deng worked as a member of the IOC Ethics Commission and Sport and Environment Commission in 2002 and now member of the IOC Athletes Commission, staff member of the Marketing Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Deng is the only Chinese double gold medalist in the 25th Olympics and four-gold medalist in both the 25th and 26th Olympics. She was presented the gold medal by IOC President of the time, J.A. Samaranch in person at both Games.
